A ransomware victim that paid Bitcoin $BTC▲1.54% to unlock his files has enacted sweet vengeance on his attackers, by hacking them right back.
As part of his retaliation, German programmer Tobias Frömel (aka “battleck”) released almost 3,000 decryption keys to assist others hit by the Muhstik ransomware, alongside free decryption software, BleepingComputer reports. However, the thing is, this revenge-hack isn’t actually legal. Frömel made reference to this in his original post on the BleepingComputer forum yesterday (see https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/705604/muhstik-qnap-ransomware-muhstik-support-topic/page-9#entry4882035), but requested that readers understand that he’s “not the bad guy here.”
